How to Make a Question Paper Online (Step-by-Step Guide)
A practical guide for teachers: set up an exam paper, add sections, MCQs, maths equations and marks, and export a print-ready PDF — all in your browser.
A well-designed question paper is easy to read, fair, and quick to print. This guide walks you through making one online — from setting up the page to exporting a print-ready PDF — using Cloord Publisher, which runs in your browser.
What a good question paper needs
Before you start, plan these parts:
- Header: school name, exam name, subject, class, time allowed and maximum marks.
- Instructions: a short list of general instructions for students.
- Sections: for example Section A — Multiple choice, Section B — Short answers, Section C — Long answers.
- Marks: shown clearly next to each question or section.
- Space: enough room for diagrams, working or answers if students write on the paper.
Step-by-step: make a question paper online
-
Create a new book. Sign in, click New Book, give it a title such as Half-yearly Examination — Mathematics, Class 8, choose A4 and the number of pages you expect.
-
Design the header once with a master page. Put the school name, exam name and a line for the student's name and roll number on a master page. Every page that uses it shows the same header — change it once and it updates everywhere.
-
Add the paper details. On the first page, add the subject, class, time allowed and maximum marks, then the general instructions as a short numbered list.
-
Create sections. Add a heading for each section with its marks, for example Section A — Multiple choice (1 mark each).
-
Insert questions with ready-made blocks. Use the Question blocks for multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blanks and matching questions instead of drawing boxes and options by hand.
-
Add equations and diagrams. Click Equation to insert fractions, roots, powers, integrals or chemical formulas from templates. Upload diagrams as images and resize them on the page.
-
Turn on page numbers. Automatic page numbers keep long papers in order — and stay correct when you add or remove pages.
-
Preview, then export the PDF. Use Preview to check every page, then Export → PDF for a print-ready file.
Formatting tips for exam papers
- Use one clear font for questions, and bold only for section headings and marks.
- Keep numbering consistent — Q1, Q2, Q3… across the whole paper.
- Align marks on the right so students can see the weight of each question at a glance.
- Leave white space between questions; crowded papers lead to mistakes.
- Keep a question and its options on the same page — never split an MCQ across a page break.
- Print a test copy before making all the copies.
Making papers in Hindi or other languages
You can type questions in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada or English — and mix languages on the same page for bilingual papers.
Working with other teachers
Invite colleagues by email: give the subject teacher edit access and the head of department view access to review the paper before printing. The paper appears in their My Books list, so nobody has to email files back and forth.
